Yoga for Surfers

Do you wish to improve your surfing ability and continue to surf like you did when you were younger? Do you have injuries that effect or limit your surfing ability? Are you spending less time in the water as you get older? If you answer yes to any of these questions then this workshop is for you!

The emphasis will be on targeted remedial stretching for body areas that commonly get tight from lots of surfing and paddling. You will learn how to use your breath to your advantage when surfing and take home a great all-round stretching routine for warming up and maintenance work. We will also look at the mechanics of the spine and paddling which will improve your knowledge and paddling technique and keep you in the water longer.

This practical and hands-on workshop brings together the eastern wisdom and practices of yoga with western exercise science knowledge. No prior yoga experience required, all you need is an open mind and the desire to discover more about yourself.

This workshop will be facilitated by the owners of Bamboo Yoga - Matt & Mark who are both keen surfers.

Matt Wierzbicki is a senior yoga teacher with more than 10 years teahcing experience. His other modalities which compliment yoga and his knowledge of the body is remedial massage and exercise science. Matt has many years of clinical experience working with physiotherapists which has given him the tools and confidence to work with all sorts of body types and injuries.  Matt combines the Eastern healing arts with Western science to give people an integrated and holistic approach to treating musculoskeletal dysfunction and improving physical performance. 

Mark Purser is a yogi with a passion for surfing and a surfing with a passion for yoga. A lifelong surfer who was inspired to explore the yogic path by the likes of Gerry Lopez and other wisdom holders in the surfing tradition Mark has spent 20 years exploring how yoga can increase performance, longevity and enjoyment in and out of the water.
